Global semiconductor sales increased by 20.6% year-on-year
Release time:2024/10/9 15:45:18

The Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) announced today that global semiconductor sales reached $53.1 billion in August 2024, up 20.6% from $44.0 billion in August 2023 and up 3.5% from $51.3 billion in July 2024.

John Neuffer, President and CEO of SIA, said, "The global semiconductor market continued to grow significantly in August, with total sales reaching an all-time high in August and monthly sales increasing for the fifth consecutive month. Year-over-year sales growth was the largest percentage since April 2022, with the Americas region up 43.9% year-over-year, with monthly sales increasing for the first time since October 2023 in all regions. ”

Regionally, sales in the Americas (43.9%), China (19.2%), Asia Pacific/all other regions (17.1%) and Japan (2.0%) increased year-on-year, but sales decreased in Europe (-9.0%). Sales in the Americas (4.3%), Japan (2.5%), Europe (2.4%), China (1.7%) and Asia-Pacific/All Other Regions (1.5%) rose month-on-month in May.

China's chip exports, up 24.8%

Recently, customs data released show that in the first eight months of this year, China's integrated circuit exports were 736.04 billion yuan, an increase of 24.8%; The export of integrated circuits has surpassed that of automobiles (the export value of automobiles in the same period was 540.84 billion yuan), becoming a major category of China's export products.

The data shows that China's integrated circuit exports are coming out of downward pressure and gradually recovering their "vitality".

In the past ten years, the export volume of integrated circuits has increased by more than 1.5 times. In 2023, China's integrated circuit export volume and export value will reach 267.8 billion and 956.77 billion yuan respectively, an increase of 74.5% and 155.9% respectively from 153.5 billion and 956.77 billion yuan in 2014.

From 2022 to 2023, the prosperity of the global chip industry will decline, and the main tone of the market will change from "grabbing chips" to "destocking". According to a report released by the United States Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA), the global semiconductor industry sales in 2023 will total $526.8 billion, down 8.2% year-on-year. Affected by this, the growth rate of China's integrated circuit exports in 2022 and 2023 will drop to 3.5% and -5% respectively, ending five consecutive years of double-digit rapid growth.

Since the beginning of this year, the situation has begun to reverse. Judging from the single-month data, in August, China's integrated circuit exports amounted to 95.18 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 18.2%, and the export value has increased year-on-year for 10 consecutive months. Integrated circuits are considered to be the quintessential cyclical industry, with an average cycle of 4 to 5 years. According to the analysis, the current industry is coming out of the haze of recession. The innovation of AI intelligent applications represented by ChatGPT, as well as the trend of intelligent and electrified vehicles, will continue to drive the integrated circuit industry to stabilize and rise.
